31 Oct Inman Elementary S.T.E.A.M. Students Visited by Astronaut
The Jill Larson S.T.E.M. Educational Fund, along with local partners, sponsored a presentation by astronaut Don Thomas for students at Inman Elementary School.
Thomas, a former astronaut for the space shuttle program who spent a total of 44 days in space, is now a professional speaker traveling across the country to share his experiences and insights about today’s space industry.
During his visit, Thomas talked about how he became an astronaut and shared stories from his time on the International Space Station. He also toured Inman Elementary’s newly developed Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) room, which features his inspiring quote: “Keep Looking Up!”
The idea to include this quote stemmed from Inman’s collaboration with Stefan Carlin at the Cosmosphere. This partnership led to Thomas’s visit to speak with the students.
While in the S.T.E.A.M. room, Thomas answered students’ questions, assisted with puzzles, and signed his name next to his quote on the wall.
The school plans to build on students’ excitement for the S.T.E.A.M. program by offering more workshops and guest speaker opportunities in the future.
