Foundation seeking volunteer tax preparers

The McPherson County Community Foundation is seeking volunteers to help complete tax returns of McPherson County residents in 2025. These volunteers would be participants under the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The VITA program under MCCF will be the first in McPherson County.

The VITA program primarily serves:

  • People who generally make $64,000 or less
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Limited English-speaking taxpayers

All VITA volunteers who prepare returns must take and pass tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards. This training includes maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of all taxpayer information. In addition to requiring volunteers to certify their knowledge of the tax laws, the IRS requires a quality review check for every return prepared at a VITA site prior to filing.

The Foundation is looking for volunteers that are either current or former financial professionals, current or former accountants and those that feel comfortable with the tax return process.

MCCF plans to schedule availability from Monday to Saturday and can be flexible with volunteers to better fit their needs, though they do ask that volunteers set aside 2-3 hours per session.

The program will be open from February 1 to April 15 of each year.

For more information about the program or to talk about volunteering, please reach out to Michelle Huddle, MCCF CFO, at Michelle@McPhersonFoundation.org or (620) 245-9070

An announcement on appointment scheduling will be sent out in Jan. of 2025.
