11 Feb 3rd annual Match Day set for March 2
McPherson, KS. February 8, 2016 – The McPherson County Community Foundation is offering $40,000 in matching funds and $5,000 in prize incentives to 22 participating organizations from 7 am to 6 pm on March 2. Contributions of cash, check or credit card may be given at the Foundation office located at 206 S. Main or online at www.mcphersonfoundation.org/donor.
Match Days provide a tremendous opportunity for an organization to build their endowment, market their programs and receive an immediate grant through the matching funds provided by the Foundation. This will be the third Match Day hosted by the Foundation. Over $114,000 was raised in the 2014 event and over $165,000 in the 2015 event. Matching dollars are made possible by a grant from the Foundation’s Community Fund.
Donors may contribute to the endowment of one or more participating organizations. The gifts are then matched proportionally to the overall total received during the event. For example, if the Foundation received $100,000 during the event and Organization Y leverages $10,000 or 10% of the total, they will receive $4,000 in matching funds. The matching dollars can be used by the organization as a grant for immediate use or added to their endowment.
“We’re pleased to provide organizations with this opportunity to build a strong endowment. This type of fund ensures a permanent resource for the organization as only the earnings are used annually,” states Becky Goss, President/CEO. “The matching money we offer is an additional incentive as they are able to receive immediate funds for their current programs or projects.”
In addition to providing a match for contributions, the Foundation is offering organizations a total of $5,000 prize incentives for the day. Prizes will be awarded for: the largest number of walk-in donors; the largest number of online donors; two random act of kindness prizes; and the largest number of new donors.
Participating organizations include: CASA; The Cedars; Circles of McPherson County; Community Thanksgiving/Christmas Dinner; Giving Hope Cancer Fund; Mt. Hope Sanctuary, Inc.; McPherson County Supports Scouting; Meals on Wheels of McPherson; McPherson High School Band; McPherson Arts Alliance; McPherson County 4-H Development; McPherson County Council on Aging; McPherson County Food Bank; McPherson Family YMCA; McPherson Hospital; McPherson Museum & Arts Foundation; McPherson Opera House Company; McPherson Public Library; McPherson Parks & Public Land; USD 418 Education Foundation; United Way of McPherson County; and Women and Children Combating Cancer.
A nonprofit endowment is a long term fund held and managed by the Foundation on behalf of a nonprofit organization. The commonly accepted definition for permanent endowment is a fund which is kept in perpetuity where earnings provide regular operating support or support for a specific project for the benefit of the organization. Building a permanent endowment provides organizations with future stability and a foundation from which to grow, not contingent on the success of current or future fundraising efforts. Having an endowment fund provides a constant source of annual income while demonstrating security and long-range financial planning.
