11 Apr Foundation announces grant awards since January 2014
The McPherson County Community Foundation announced $19,460 in grants have been awarded to programs and projects benefitting McPherson County residents from January 1, 2014 to April 10, 2014. Funding was made possible by field of interest funds focused on children, health and the community. Each year a percentage of the earnings are distributed to applicants matching the grant guidelines. Funds and recipient organizations are:
Kansas Health Foundation Children’s Fund
Elyria Christian School – HD Projectors – to put HDMI projectors in each classroom to enhance teachers capability to project and share information with students. $2400
Leadership McPherson 2013 Class – Child Identification Program (CHIPs) – to supply each child in McPherson County with a packet containing their fingerprints, DNA sample, ID cards and information needed by authorities in case of an emergency . $7000
McPherson Community Theatre Annual Summer Musical – to provide musical theater instruction, opportunities to perform, and cultural enrichment to the McPherson community. $1060
Larry Wedel Health Fund
Bethany College Automated Defibrillators Project – To make campus safer by purchasing 4 AED’s for strategic locations around campus. As part of the project, staff and faculty will be trained to use the AED’s in case of a cardiac arrest on campus. $5000
Children’s Fund of McPherson County
Canton/Galva FCCLA- Self-Worth: R5 Production – to help FCCLA members sponsor presentations at the middle and high school focused on promoting self-worth. $500
Children’s Leadership Fund
Family Fair 2014 – A free event to raise awareness of the 40 developmental assets and local nonprofit resources to help strengthen families. $2000
Canton/Galva Youth Advisory Council Fund
End of the Year Field Day: Sue Vogts requested funds for activities and a picnic lunch for students and their parents. $150
P.E. Mats: Rodger Trimmel requested funds to help replace damaged mats used by the USD 419 Physical Education students and the school cheerleaders. $518
Forensics Science: Judy Seidl requested startup funds for a new science class. The grant will be used for curriculum and lab materials. $332
Self Worth R5 Productions: Sarah Frye requested assistance to fund a presentation for middle and high school students teaching the importance of self-worth as they develop into community leaders. $500
