Grants Workshop Registration Now Open

The McPherson County Community Foundation is partnering with McPherson County Research and Extension and the McPherson Public Library to host a grant writing workshop.

The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the McPherson County Research and Extension office, 600 W. Woodside, McPherson.

K-State Research and Extension’s Nancy Daniels, a community vitality specialist, will lead the workshop. Daniels brings a grant writing program that helped participants secure $42 million in successful grants during its first year.

“This workshop is for everyone—whether they’ve never written a proposal and don’t know where to start or have experience but are looking to improve their approach,” Daniels said. “The magic that happens in a local community when people realize they don’t have to wait to get something done, that they can do it themselves, is incredible.”

Daniels added that participants learn from each other, with even experienced grant writers picking up new tips and feeling reenergized after connecting with their peers. Attendees are encouraged to bring their grant proposals or ideas to share.

Workshop topics include:

  • Sources of data for community needs (where to find the numbers to back up your request)
  • Where to find grants
  • The five common elements of a great grant proposal
  • Practicing the grant writing elements

As for what makes this this workshop so important, Betsy Davis, Director of Community Services at MCCF says that it will open up opportunities for local organizations.

“This workshop demystifies the grant writing process, empowering local organizations to share their stories and articulate their needs.” Davis said.

Registration for the workshop will cost $60 and will close on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Those in attendance will be eligible to receive a grant partially reimbursing the registration fee.
