14 Nov Foundation Scholarship Process Opens Nov. 15
The McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) will open its regular and adult learning scholarship application processes on Nov. 15. While scholarship requirements vary, applications will be accepted from all students in McPherson County.
This year, the adult learning scholarship timeline has been adjusted to provide a longer application window, moving away from its traditional summer schedule.
Applicants can apply through a portal on the Foundation’s website, under the university/college scholarships section. A general application will determine eligibility for each scholarship, with the system notifying students of the opportunities they qualify for. Students may apply for as many scholarships as they are eligible for but can only receive one scholarship per year. The Foundation will award the highest-value scholarship.
Last year, the Foundation awarded more than $31,000 in financial aid across 24 funds. This year, four new scholarship opportunities have been added:
- The Jack & Dolores Mathis Scholarship: Open to graduating seniors of McPherso0n County Schools who plan to attend vocational school or pursue an agricultural degree. Priority will be given to members of the First Christian Church of McPherson. One $500 scholarship will be awarded.
- The Karen Lee Vogts Scholarship: Open to graduating seniors of Moundridge High School with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a non-family member. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.
- Jill Larson Educational Scholarship: Women in STEM: Open to graduating female students from McPherson County high schools who plan to pursue a four-year degree in a STEM field. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or jobs held during the last two years of high school. Three $2,500 scholarships will be awarded.
- The Steve Jukes Memorial Scholarship is open to Graduating seniors of McPherson High School. Preference will be given to students who competed on the McPherson High School Golf Team, those seeking an engineering degree and those planning to attend an Accredited College in the State of Kansas. Two (2) $1000 scholarships will be awarded.
“We see scholarships as an equalizing gift to the youth of our community,” said Becky Goss, MCCF President and CEO. “This gift gives our youth a chance to develop their skills, and while some may not return to McPherson County, those who do will contribute to the ongoing investment made in our community.”
MCCF will continue to share details and application instructions with seniors at McPherson County high schools. Inman High School students applying for Inman-specific scholarships should contact their school counselor.
