Foundation Scholarship Process Opens Nov. 15

MCPHERSON, KAN. —- The McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) regular and adult learning scholarship application processes will officially open on Nov. 15. Requirements of scholarships will vary, but general applications will be accepted from all students in McPherson County.

The change to the time frame of the adult learning scholarship process, typically offered in the summer, aims to provide a longer window for potential applicants.

Applicants will be able to apply through a portal accessible from the Foundation’s webpage under university/college scholarships (Here). A general application will test the student’s eligibility based on the requirements of each scholarship. The system will then notify the student what they are eligible to apply for. Students can apply for as many scholarships as they are eligible for, however, they may only receive one scholarship from the Foundation. It is the Foundation’s policy to award the highest total value scholarship won.

Last year over $31,000 in financial aid was released from 24 total funds.

This year the Foundation will add two new opportunities to its regular process:

The Jack & Dolores Mathis Scholarship is open to graduating Seniors of McPherson County Schools who plan on attending a vocational school or pursuing an agricultural degree. Priority will be given to members of the First Christian Church of McPherson. One (1) $500 scholarship will be awarded.

The Karen Lee Vogts Scholarship is open to graduating seniors of Moundridge High School. Graduates must have a greater than 2.5 GPA and will need to ask a non-family member to write a letter of recommendation. One (1) $1000 scholarship will be awarded.

“We see scholarships as an equalizing gift to the youth from our community.” Becky Goss, MCCF President and CEO, said, “This gift gives our youth a chance to develop their skills and while some may not return back to the community, the ones that do will be a part of the investment made into McPherson County.”

MCCF will continue to present details of the scholarships and application to the seniors of McPherson County high schools.

It should be noted that Inman High School students applying for Inman specific scholarships should contact their counselor.
