Community Foundation works towards Reverse Scholarship Program

The City of Moundridge commission passed a special resolution supporting the McPherson County Community Foundation’s (MCCF) establishment of a reverse scholarship program.

The McPherson County Community Professional Recruitment, or McPherson County CPR, is designed to capture/recapture college or trade educated talent. No numbers for the availability of scholarships have been announced. The Foundation is partnering with donors and businesses to bring the program to reality.

The concept is simple: A college or trade educated person moves to a participating community and county business. They are eligible to apply for a scholarship to pay their student loans or offset relocation cost to move to McPherson County.

McPherson County CPR recipients would be required to reside in participating communities and work for a business or organization that operates within McPherson County.

“We have a large number of colleges, trade schools and community colleges in our area.” Michelle Huddle, MCCF CFO said, “We feel confident that this program will draw applicants from numerous fields to complement our existing workforce.”

This program extends eligibility to those who moved away from the county for their education and provides them an incentive to return to their community.

The Foundation is currently working with all McPherson County communities to pass a similar special resolution. A resolution supporting this initiative is a crucial part of the program’s success.

“This gives our local businesses and industries another tool in their recruiting belt, another reason to make McPherson County home.” Huddle said.
