10 Dec McPherson County Schools to host Christmas Opera
MCPHERSON, KAN. —- Music On Site, an opera company based in central Kansas, in partnership with the McPherson County Community Foundation, is presenting the popular Christmas-time opera of Amahl and the Night Visitors to students at McPherson Co. schools. Performances will kick off at Smoky Valley Middle School (Lindsborg) on Dec. 15 and end at Moundridge Elementary School on Dec. 17. The performance represents an opportunity for local students to meet internationally respected artists from twenty-two states and Mexico, as well as numerous outstanding regional artists.
“Music On Site’s hope is that having the opportunity to hear beautiful singing and engage with this wonderful Christmas-time story will inspire an awareness and lifelong appreciation for music, theatre, and the operatic art form.” Music On Site Executive Director, J. Bradley Baker, said, “We will gladly take the blame when they come home trying out their ‘opera voices’!”
Amahl and the Night Visitors tells the story of a young disabled boy who has an encounter with the three kings as they travel to meet the newborn Jesus. When Amahl offers his crutch as a gift for the Child, the boy’s affliction is miraculously healed.
Funding for the Music On Site’s visit to McPherson Co. schools was secured through Donor-Advised funds administered by the McPherson County Community Foundation.
