2017-2018 Scholarship Recipients announced

The McPherson County Community Foundation and the Inman Community Foundation are pleased to announce the individuals selected to receive scholarships from various funds administered by the community foundations.

The following scholarships are being awarded for the 2017-2018 school year. Recipients may use the funds for tuition, books, or educational expenses.

 

Raleigh Insurance Scholarship – $500 

This scholarship is open to Inman High School graduating seniors planning to pursue a degree in an agricultural or business related field.

* Tanner Knackstedt from Inman High School.

 

Canton-Galva Scholarship – $3,500

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending Canton-Galva High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level.

* Autumn Colgin from Canton-Galva High School plans to attend Kansas Wesleyan University.

 

Canton-Galva Scholarship – $2,000

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending Canton-Galva High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level.

* Kaylee Littrell from Canton-Galva High School plans to attend Bethany College.

* Hunter Pearson from Canton-Galva High School plans to attend North Central Kansas Technical College.

 

Agatha Smyres Scholarship for service professions – $500

This scholarship is for graduates of Inman High School who have completed 5 semesters of college and are working toward a degree in the service industry which could include: educators, clergy, social services, registered nursing, physical therapy, physician or dentistry. Criteria for eligibility include: average or above average achievements in college classes to date, financial need, potential to make an impact on others, and involvement in leadership and community service type activities.

*Lydia Balzer plans to attend Kansas University School of Pharmacy.

 

SAL Scholarship – $500

This scholarship is for Inman High School students and alumni who are interested in the Fine Arts and plan to continue Fine Arts study at the next level of education. Students with a GPA of 2.5 and above may apply. Financial need will be given strong consideration and should be addressed in the student’s application. Students may apply for this scholarship each year that they continue their education after high school.

*Hannah Schriner from Inman High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

*Taytum Lankford from Inman High School plans to attend Tabor College.

 

Paul W. Davis Memorial Fund Scholarship – $750 

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors of McPherson High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level.

*Sarah Pham from McPherson High School plans to attend Boston University.

 

First United Methodist Church Scholarship – $1,000 

This scholarship is available for graduating seniors who are active members of the First United Methodist Church, 1200 E. Kansas, in McPherson, Kansas.

*Thomas Smith from McPherson High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

 

Jay L. Frazier Scholarship – $1,000 

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending McPherson High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level with a preference in science.

*Elizabeth Evans from McPherson High School plans to attend Emporia State University.

*Elizabeth (Elle) Schrag from McPherson High School plans to attend Bethany College.

 

Hanson Family Educational Foundation Scholarship – $1,100 

This scholarship is available to assist an individual in attending post-secondary public (tax supported) institutions. Applicants must be residents of McPherson County.

* Hadley Hageman from McPherson High School plans to attend the University of Kansas.

 

Bob Hooper McPherson High School Basketball Scholarship – $1,000 

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors who have attended McPherson High School for four years. Preference will be given to applicants who have been members of the MHS Basketball team during at least part of their high school careers, but are not required to continue playing basketball when they enter college.

* John (Paxton) Leaf from McPherson High School plans to attend the University of Oklahoma at Norman.

 

Kansas American Tooling Scholarship – $750

This scholarship, in memory of Kenton Gearhart, was established for candidates living in McPherson County, Kansas. Candidates must intend to work in the plastics industry as a production worker, machinist or toolmaker, engineer or technologist/technician, business manager, or teacher of metal working tradesman.

*Maria Martin from McPherson High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

 

Kyle Jefferson McMannis Scholarship – $500 

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending one of the following Kansas high schools: Canton/Galva High School, Elyria Christian School, Wichita Northwest High School or St. John’s High School and who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level.

*Kelli Nightingale from Canton-Galva High School plans to attend Bethany College.

*Reed Wiens from McPherson High School plans

 

Gary McNaul Memorial Scholarship – $750 

This scholarship is open to McPherson High School graduating seniors who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level. Preference will be given to graduating seniors who have or are playing on McPherson High School’s Golf team.

*Jacob Lackey from McPherson High School plans to attend the University of Central Oklahoma.

 

McPherson Community Education Foundation – $500

*Faith Wehrman from McPherson High School plans to attend McPherson College.

*Kaylee Eberhardt from McPherson High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

*Dylan Baldwin from McPherson High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

*Anna Young from McPherson High School plans to attend the University of Kansas.

 

Inman Community Foundation – $500

*Ben Pankratz from Inman High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

*Lucas Barlow from Inman High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

 

Troy D. Hostetler Memorial Scholarship – $500

This scholarship is for graduates of Inman High School interested in an agriculture-related field of study. Other areas of study may also be considered. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of each applicant’s grades, ACT score, leadership, involvement throughout their years at Inman High School, and financial need.

*Keaton Case from Inman High School plans to attend Kansas State University.
