26 Mar Ed Butler passes away March 24, 2013
Edward R. Butler, 76, of McPherson, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013, surrounded by his family at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was a retired college professor and administrator, having worked at Emporia State University, McPherson College, and Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Ed was born on September 16, 1936, in Eldora, Iowa, the son of David L. and Zelma I. (Pierce) Butler. He graduated from Eldora High School. He received a Bachelor’s degree from McPherson College and Master’s and PhD degrees from State University of New York at Buffalo.
On January 24, 1958, he was united in marriage to Judith E. Brammell at the Lone Star Church of the Brethren near Lawrence, KS.
He was a member and deacon of the McPherson Church of the Brethren, where he chaired the leadership team and finance committee. He was also a member of Light Capital Kiwanis Club, Roosevelt Elementary School Site Council, served on the board of the McPherson County Community Foundation, and was a former director the Elderhostel Program at Emporia State University.
Survivors include: his wife, Judy of the home; son, Jeff Butler and wife, Angela, of McPherson, KS; daughters, Linda Brittingham of Dowagiac, MI and Nancy Moyer and husband, Forrest, of McPherson, KS; sister, Eileen Butler of Hillsboro, KS; brother, Donald Butler and wife, Velva, of Grundy Center, IA; eight grandchildren, Isabelle, Ivanna, Israel, Ilanna, & Isaiah Moyer and Hannah, Zachary, & Abigale Butler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark Edward Butler, daughter, Beth Ann Butler, and brother-in-law, Roger Brammell.
The board of directors and staff of the McPherson County Community Foundation greatly appreciate his service as a member. He will be missed.
